Are you looking to meet new people, make new friends and do something that has purpose and have fun while doing it? This could be it!

South Gate Centre and Local Roots Café are looking for enthusiastic volunteers. For many positions, no experience is necessary, as training is provided for each position. If you can volunteer a few hours a week, or only occasionally, we would love to talk to you about joining our team!

LOCAL ROOTS CAFE/CATERING TEAM

Indoor Dining
We are looking for motivated volunteers who would enjoy working in food services, while supporting this social enterprise of South Gate Centre. You will work alongside the dynamic duo of Chef Shelley and Kristin, along with other passionate and positive thinking volunteers.

Café
Positions include:

Food Preparation
Kitchen Cleanup Crew, Dishwashers
Lunch Counter - Server
Local Roots Food Order Desk (operate Point of Sale system using an iPad, handle cash, take in-person and phone orders and enter into online computer system)

Shift opportunities – Wednesday – Friday, morning and lunchtime

Catering
South Gate Centre is a charitable organization. To generate additional income, to offset costs for our programing, we rent out our facility rooms for private functions that include food services. Examples of functions; weddings, anniversaries, celebrations of life, birthdays, service club and community group meetings/training sessions, banquets

Shift opportunities – you choose – daytime, afternoons, weekends, evenings. Duration of your volunteer shift will vary depending on the function.

Set Up

table settings (table clothes, cutlery, glassware etc.)

Decorators

table skirting, centerpieces, seasonal decorating required for a function

Servers

buffet, table service, clearing tables

Kitchen Cleanup Crew, Dishwashers

FITNESS INSTRUCTORS

We are currently in need of new fitness volunteers. To learn how to obtain your qualifications or recertify to teach the fitness classes, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator by calling the Centre at 519-539-9817.

FRONT DESK

We are currently looking for volunteers for the Front Desk. Customer service, administrative and computer experience is required. Duties include customer service (answering phones, in-person inquiries), program registrations, membership services, ticket sales, etc.
Shift opportunities – morning, afternoon or all day

SPECIAL EVENTS

These events are usually one day and are either a fund raising event for South Gate Centre or a fun, free event for our community to enjoy.

The types of events we have offered in the past include: Online auctions, Golf Tournament, Bazaar, Ground Hog Day Celebration, Garden Extravaganza, Car Cruises, Garage Sale, Dances, Card Tournaments, 50/50 Sales.

If you don’t have a lot of time to volunteer but can offer your time for a day, this is a fun way to support South Gate Centre.

SEASONAL DECORATORS

As every festive season approaches, South Gate celebrates by decorating the Centre. We appreciate extra hands when decorating.
